At one of Hokkaido's oldest shopping districts, Tanukikoji Shopping Street offers a variety of both historical and newly opened shops. Built in 1873, the 1 km (0.6 mi) colorful arcade houses over 200 decorated stores, extending eight blocks from east to west. You can purchase all sorts of clothes (including kimonos), electric appliances, musical instruments, materials, and other speciality merchandise. When you grow tired of shopping, a wide selection of restaurants and movie theaters offer relaxation and dining. The street can get crowded--karaoke fans might want to take advantage of the captive audiences at a local bar. A visit to Tanukikoji Shopping Street represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Sapporo online road trip planner to plot your vacation.

Disappointing- there was nothing I felt like buying and no places I wanted to eat at. The shops are dull.

Find the local artist in the main street and buy his artwork for only 200¥ each. You can find his paintings printed as postcards. The paintings are all indeed beautiful and represent Japan environments. The artist was also humble and always smile. Kindly visit him in the shopping street and check his website to see his artworks✨
This is the most popular spot in Hokkaido when you are here. You get to have the best of everything Hokkaido can provide. The best veggies, the best water and the best milk in Japan. People here are nice and this is where you can bring home little gifts for yourself and families. People are nice with more laid back attitude than that in Tokyo. They make you feel welcome and friendly. Small shops are well organized in this area, you can easily find what you want from so many shops, they competed yet work together to get your attention. English is not working too well here, but thanks to Google translate. This is the Taiwanese owned shop and I accidentally bumped into it. They have been here for years. I also just realized all you need is a shop to stay in Japan legally.
