A masterpiece of architecture and a symbol of Yamaguchi, Ruriko Temple Five-Story Pagoda competes with most impressive traditional buildings in Japan. With the distinguished gentle slopes of its wide overhanging roof, it stands 31 m tall (102 ft) on a river bank at the foot of a hill amid lush greenery. Built in 1442, the pagoda overlooks a carp pond. Inside the temple, which was moved here in 1690, you can see models of the 50-plus five-storied pagodas found across Japan. The site, a five minute walk from Kencho-mae bus station and a five minute bus ride from Yamaguchi, makes a great place to take photos. • Relaxed place and superb view. One of the three best pagoda in Japan !!!
  • No matter how many times I visit, this pagoda takes my breath away! It’s so pretty throughout the year. There are plum blossom trees, cherry blossom trees, and hydrangea on the grounds for people to enjoy. It’s also nice place to enjoy fall foliage. There are usually some volunteer guides on the grounds also. They are so nice and helpful. Lots of parking available, but they do get very busy during certain times of the year if you go on the weekend. If you’re hungry while you are here, there is a cafe that serves the roof tile noodles nearby. It’s next to the large gift shop that is located next to the parking lot. The grounds are wheelchair and stroller friendly. There is no fee to enter and view the pagoda.
