One of the oldest tourist attractions in Latvia, Gutman's Cave, dates back to the 17th century and features inscriptions carved into the walls. The 10 m (33 ft) high and 12 m (39 ft) wide geological formation is reputed to be the tallest and widest grotto in the Baltics. Take a guided tour of the cave to see the inscriptions that were once ordered by rich citizens and later engraved by tourists, many depicting tales of love and death. • I had assumed that the cave went into the hillside more, but it was very shallow. It is worth a visit, but don’t expect to be going underground. The story behind the cave is interesting.
