Redwoods, Whakarewarewa Forest
Bike or hike through Redwoods, Whakarewarewa Forest, a pristine natural world featuring a spectacular stand of giant California Coast redwood trees. Just 5 km (3.1 mi) from downtown Rotorua, "the Redwoods" (as the forest is locally known) serve as a 55,000 hectare (135,000 acre) playground for adventurous visitors wishing to experience New Zealand's lush wilderness by walking, cycling, or horseback riding. Considered one of the world's top mountain biking locations, the forest offers more than 160 km (99 mi) of trails catering to both beginner and expert riders. Be sure to check out routes wittily named "Be Rude Not To" and "Gunna Gotta." Hikers can explore a network of scenic trails, many of which offer sweeping views of Rotorua. Our Rotorua sightseeing planner makes visiting Redwoods, Whakarewarewa Forest and other Rotorua attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

Such an amazing forest and the trees are giants. If you head away from the shorter walks, the peace in the forest is wonderful.

It was really such a nice walk in the redwoods forest that you will feel to remain there forever. We took 1 hr track which is blue one. You have the option to take three walk which we will plan in night time later but overall it was a wonderful break in Rotorua. Would love to visit again anytime.

One of the most amazing forests I've seen located within a city! Plenty of activity here, such as mountain biking and walking tracks. If you go through the vistors center there is a tree top walk and flying fox which you can pay and enter. Everything else is free and there's plenty of parking. Walking tracks start from the visitors center, take the red track for a quick 30min walk. Amazing place to visit both during the day and at night. Walking tracks can be seen in my photos.
