Create an itinerary including Nizwa Fort
A perfectly preserved example of classic Omani architecture, Nizwa Fort proudly looks out over the city and remains of the oldest of structures its kind in the country. Constructed above an underground stream in the mid-17th century, the fort is known for its monumental drum tower, soaring 30 m (98.4 ft) up into the sky and studded with lookout and firing points. Long the seat of power for the ruling imams, the fort also served as an intimidating stronghold during various conflicts. Enter past two majestic canons, then wind your way around terraces, corridors, and stairways leading to the top of the cylindrical tower, where panoramic views of the town and Hajar Mountains reward your efforts. • Bahla fort is nice and bigger but what makes the difference here are the other things inside (mini zoo, swing, oman pancakes, ..)

  • It was the most rewarding experience visiting Nizwa Fort, especially with Noor Alhadhrami as the tour guide. She explained the history of the Fort and the Castle with great passion and dedication...

  • The fort is amazing with its stunning architecture and beautiful landscapes nearby. Also each room/section of the fort is clearly documented to give information about its history. Only thing I would recommend is NOT visiting in the afternoon as it can get really hot.
  • Truly amazing - spent around 3 hours here! Really enjoyed the group of men singing happy Omani songs and dancing. The goats in the farm at the end of the garden were cute. The fort itself was spectacular, especially nearing sunset! Great views of surrounding areas from the top of the fort.
