Explore the historical Jardim Zoologico with its 300 species of animals, many of which are endangered. Dr. Van Der Leen, who owned the largest aviary in the country, founded the zoo in 1884 with the support of a few others. This zoo is focused on conservation and the continuation of endangered species. Learn about its efforts by participating in an educational program or joining in a recreational activity on site. You can see more than 2,000 animals, including 157 species of birds. The zoo also offers a number of entertaining exhibits, including a dolphin show. For travelers who use our international travel planner, Lisbon holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Jardim Zoologico and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

I love zoos, and this one didn't disappoint! It was kind of chilly the day we went but we still saw most of the inhabitants. We took the sky ride - kind of like riding in a Roman chariot in the air...

Such a lovely and well kept zoo with a great variety of animals and beautiful gardens. There are wonderful little kiosks for snacks and drinks as well as a large picnic area if you want to bring your own food. You can easily spend a whole day there if you have small children as there is so much to see.

Fantastic place to create beautiful memories. My daughter loved all the animals even being 2yr old. Lunch time was quite warm so most of the main attractions were sleeping. Beautiful vegetation with many matured trees and nice gardens. The dolphins were just fantastic. Everything was very clean and the animals seemed to be happy and well treated. Surely to repeat in a couple of years!
