Museu Nacional do Azulejo
Housed in the monastery of Madre Deus, Museu Nacional do Azulejo showcases tiles dating back to the 15th century. If you are interested in ceramic tile work or in learning more about a specialty of the region, take the time to visit this museum. Step inside and discover azulejo--the painted, tin-glazed, ceramic tiles. The Moors brought this craft to Portugal, where it has become an essential part of the country's culture. It's typically seen in churches, palaces, homes, and even railway stations. Explore the colorful, decorative exhibits that chronicle historical and cultural events in Portugal throughout the last several centuries. Make Museu Nacional do Azulejo a centerpiece of your Lisbon vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Lisbon trip planning app.

Fantastic experience. Forget the modern art! The beauty and Portugal history is embodied in the amazing blue and white porcelain tile scenes. A truly amazing experience and especially with the church, don't miss it at upper and lower level. Humbling!

Well it is a museum. For tiles. It was definitely not for me and i had the least fun ever! If you are not in for that kind of history you do not have to visit. The best part of the museum is the garden and the cafe. Refreshing beer, delicious sandwiches. Note: the woman in the reception was aware of us waiting, but she kept talking on the phone.
