  • Although built in the 13th century, what can be visited now is a more recent construction after the violent earthquake of 1755. Admission is free and inside the gold-covered Baroque-style altar...

  • Built in the mid-thirteenth or fourteenth century, it was a three-nave Gothic basilica that was distinguished by being the seat of the collegiate church of Saint Peter. Unfortunately, it collapsed with the earthquake of 1755. Of the original building, only the high altar and the bell tower remain. The reconstruction after the earthquake was simple. It has an altarpiece depicting São Pedro by the painter João da Costa. The current parish priest ordered that frames be placed on the altars and decorated with beautiful cloths during Lent and Easter time. Here are buried Father Rafael Silveira Malhao, brother of the well-known character who inspired the traditional song “o malao, malhao”, and the esteemed artist and feminist Josepha de Obidos.
  • Church with a very beautiful exterior architecture. The interior does not present an architecture of such noble materials, because due to the earthquake of 1755 it had to be rebuilt. It featured a simple nativity scene, but well structured and assembled.
