Caldeira Velha Environmental Interpretation Centre
An important geosite of the Azores UNESCO Global Geopark, Caldeira Velha Environmental Interpretation Centre, features a thermal spring that feeds two natural pools with temperatures of 27 C (80 F) and 38 C (100 F). Before donning your bathing suite and bathing the warm waters, stop into the interpretation center to learn about the geological origins, geodiversity, and biodiversity of the Azores and to peruse the samples of endemic plant life and rocks. The onsite 320 m (960 ft) Water Spring Walking Trail provides a fine warmup for your soak in the geothermal pools surrounded by dense and diverse vegetation. To protect the ecologically fragile area from mass tourism, the center keeps guided under the auspices of one its own technicians. We first went in 2018 and it was so peaceful but after our visit this month it seems its sadly been discovered by influencers and is now full of people trying to get the perfect shot. This makes it pretty overcrowded and our experience was that it wasn't relaxing at all. There are changing facilities and lockers but you'll need to bring your own padlock. There is one shower and two toilets which isn't really enough for the amount of people that are there - can't imagine this would be pleasant in the summer. There are some lovely views and the museum is interesting but in my opinion there are nicer and calmer hot springs and walks to go to on the island. Getting tickets in advance is essential and easy to do on the website.

Pretty place, however they said they were sold out of tickets for the day by 12pm to use the baths. After paying €3 to walk around the tiny site we saw 4 people in total using the baths. Something doesn't add up there.
