Surrounded by imposing cliffs, Praia do Beliche is one of the region's most popular beaches for surfing, thanks to its consistent waves. Even if you don't want to surf, you can enjoy the beach by lounging in the sun or exploring the nearby fortress built in the 15th century. Though conditions around the beach are generally rough, the 40 m (131 ft) high cliffs protect it a great deal from wind. Keep in mind that the large waves mean the water is best suited to experienced surfers only. Note that the beach is accessible only via a steep set of stairs down the cliffs. Gorgeous pristine beach with fine sand. Access via stairs that start off quite gently then become quite steep at the bottom. Doable for most age groups and fitness levels. The cliffs are stunning and there are caves to explore. There’s a cafe at the foot of the stairs and a restaurant (Terra) across from the carpark.

Little surf and wind this day. A few people, perfect for drone filming. Steep steps down and up. Café at the beach with grilled chicken and burgers.
