Explore the village, found nestled in the foothills of Hwasan Mountain, to learn more about Joseon architecture and culture as you marvel at the traditional houses on display. Whilst most of the homes remain closed to the public to maintain the villagers' privacy, some do allow entry to their courtyards, where you can get a sneak peek of village life. The village has also earned reknown for its preservation of folklore traditions, valuable books, transcripts, and structure of clan-based villages living side-by-side. It became even more popular in 1999 when Queen Elizabeth of England visited the area. Make sure you try a local delicacy during your visit, such as Andong Soju, a distilled alcoholic beverage not for the faint-hearted. • I've been fortunate to feel like I travelled in time when visiting Hahoe. We had a local volunteer guide, a wonderful English-speaking guide that gave us great information into Korean traditions, architecture and history. I recommend asking for a guide at the information point next to the bus shuttle.
  • Nice traditional village, isolated from modern buildings. It's a bit far away from the city, and the bus we took to get there (210) has a very low frequency. Thus, in the end, our visit took us the whole day.
