This is free to enter. I am guessing most people will go to Gyeongbokgung Palace. The museum is linked to the palace from the back. I would definitely recommend going after visiting the palace...

We visited this museum after visiting one of the palaces. It is clean, well laid out, and had enough English to make us feel we really understood what we were looking at.

The National Folk Museum of Korea is probably the best place in Korea (not just Seoul) for visitors, expats, and Korean citizens to explore & learn about the foundations of Korean traditional culture. With its exhibit halls, media resources, performance auditorium, and highly experienced staff, regular folks and scholars alike can develop/enhance their understandings. There are even activities for children on weekends & holidays. I've been to the NFMK more than 40 times in the last 20 years... and I'd highly recommend it to everyone who want to learn about the deeply-rooted foundations of Korean traditional culture. Have fun! (^,^)

Great place to learn about Korean ways of life and cultural heritage. I saw just two exhibits on my first visit (one permanent, one temporary) and really enjoyed both. You can reach the museum via the gate on the eastern side of the palace. (You don't need to pay palace admission.)
