Strikingly white, St Mary's Church stands out against the surrounding landscape thanks to its facade, glistening under the clear blue sky. The Anglican church dates back to the 1840s and remains not only a major religious site, but also one of the island's most notable architectural landmarks. • A lovely little church which is well worth a visit. The whitewashed building is easily seen from most places in Georgetown. Inside are several religious artefacts. One of the most striking thing...

  • You can't miss the church in the centre of Georgetown, but stop in - don't pass it by! From the notice on the door asking you not to leave it open so that the donkeys do not get in to the memorials....  more

  • Having worked and lived on Ascension Island St. Mary's church was more welcoming than the Catholic churches I attended. The memorials to those that lost their lives was inspiring. St Mary's relied on volunteers to help maintain and provide repairs.

One of the most striking thing about the church are the number of memorial plaques on the walls to people who lost their lives often in tragic circumstances.
