New River Plantation dates from 1720. Its ruins are extensive. The last remaining sugar mill on Nevis, it continued to produce sugar until 1968.

We don’t like tourists traps. We love finding significant historical sites that are hidden gems. This is one of those places. Perhaps the best we have ever found. They have some plaques in place that explain what the different structures were. Lost of steel left so you can get a sense of how the operation worked. Not sure if it’s part of the same estate. But there are more ruins nearby at (17.1474722, -62.5450969), and at (17.1466110, -62.5407166).
