Paphos — 4 nights

The legendary birthplace of the Greek goddess Aphrodite and the capital of western Cyprus, the city of Paphos showcases an abundance of archaeological, architectural, and historical sites.
Step out of Paphos with an excursion to Aphrodite's Rock in Kouklia--about 44 minutes away. Plan for a day of cool, family-friendly fun on the 13th (Sat) at Paphos Aphrodite Waterpark. There's much more to do: delve into the distant past at Tombs of the Kings, explore the historical opulence of Paphos Harbour Castle, sample the tasty concoctions at Aphrodite’s Rock Microbrewery & Brewpub, and head off-road at local off-road trails.

For reviews, photos, other places to visit, and tourist information, refer to the Paphos road trip app.

Paris, France to Paphos is an approximately 9.5-hour flight. You'll lose 1 hour traveling from Paris to Paphos due to the time zone difference. Traveling from Paris in August, things will get somewhat warmer in Paphos: highs are around 37°C and lows about 26°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 15th (Mon) so you can drive to Nicosia.

the last divided capital

Experience a combination of traditional and modern Cyprus, including archaeological sites encircled by ancient walls, in the country's capital, Nicosia.
Change things up with these side-trips from Nicosia: Agros Safari (in Agros), Scuba & Snorkeling (in Alsancak - Karavas) and Kyrenia (Bellapais Monastery & Saint Hilarion Castle). There's still lots to do: take in the architecture and atmosphere at Church of Saint Lazarus, take in the spiritual surroundings of Hala Sultan Tekke, get engrossed in the history at The Cyprus Museum, and kick back and relax at Finikoudes Beach.

Ayia Napa — 5 nights

Though Ayia Napa boasts archaeological sites and the largest water park in Europe, the city is best known as a party hub.
Venture out of the city with trips to Famagusta (Salamis Ancient City & Lala Mustafa Pasha Mosque). There's much more to do: stroll through Nissi Beach, kick back and relax at Makronissos Beach, explore the activities along Blue Lagoon, and discover the deep blue sea with a scuba or snorkeling tour.

From sandy beaches to stone castles, and from bustling nightclubs to romantic tavernas, Cyprus is the perfect destination for those who seek a complete Mediterranean experience. Many civilizations have left their mark on the island's long and vibrant history, and consequently its customs, cuisine, and architecture. Beyond the divide between the predominantly Greek south and Turkish north, throughout the island you'll recognize Venetian, Genoese, British, and Middle Eastern influences. Of course, the main attraction that draws tourists from all over the world is the sunny coast, dotted with historical cities and fully equipped beaches. There is also a selection of peaceful villages, both inland and by the sea, where those looking for a more secluded holiday can retreat. A visit to the country's capital Nicosia, with its vibrant art and culture scene and numerous sightseeing opportunities, is definitely worth adding to your itinerary wherever you're staying.
