Kyoto — 14 nights

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Kyoto Railway Museum and Amanohashidate. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Kyoto: Osaka (Food Tours, Umeda Sky Building, &more), Horyu-ji Temple (in Ikaruga-cho) and Suzuka Circuit (in Suzuka). There's still lots to do: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Sanzen-in Temple, admire the natural beauty at Nanzen-ji Temple, don't miss a visit to Eikando Zenrinji Temple, and take in the local highlights with Walking tours.

To see maps, other places to visit, and more tourist information, refer to the Kyoto trip planning tool.

If you are flying in from Canada, the closest major aiports are Osaka International Airport, Kansai International Airport and Chubu Centrair International Airport. Expect a daytime high around 33°C in September, and nighttime lows around 23°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 22nd (Sun) early enough to travel back home.
