Pompeii has been a tourist destination for more than 250 years.
Attractions like Pompeii Archaeological Park and Vesuvio National Park make great kid-friendly stops. Relax by the water at Spiaggia di castiglione and Spiaggia Lannio. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Pompeii: Spiaggia - Hotel Sole Splendid (in Maiori), Duomo di Ravello (in Ravello) and Salerno (Promenade Trieste & Cilento). Next up on the itinerary: explore the ancient world of Parco Acheologico di Ercolano and steep yourself in history at Lupanar.

Amsterdam, The Netherlands to Pompeii is an approximately 6-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a train. Expect somewhat warmer temperatures when traveling from Amsterdam in August; daily highs in Pompeii reach 36°C and lows reach 25°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 29th (Mon) to allow time to drive to Positano.

Positano — 5 nights

Often referred to as the gem of the Amalfi Coast, Positano remains one of southern Italy's most sought-after vacation locales, thanks to its hillside location and picturesque, pastel buildings.
Kids will appreciate attractions like Fornillo and Arienzo Beach Club, Positano. You'll get in some beach time at Lido di Ravello and Lido Capo di Conca. Get out of town with these interesting Positano side-trips: Riviera di San Montano (in Massa Lubrense), Amalfi (Museo della Carta, Fontana sant'Andrea, &more) and Chiesa di San Pancrazio Martire (in Conca dei Marini). Next up on the itinerary: get great views at Il Sentiero Degli Dei, kick back and relax at Spiaggia di Atrani, tour the pleasant surroundings at Spiagge Le Praie, and steep yourself in history at Villa Cimbrone Gardens.

You can drive from Pompeii to Positano in 1.5 hours. Another option is to take a bus. Expect a daytime high around 36°C in August, and nighttime lows around 26°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 3rd (Sat) early enough to go by car to Paestum.

Maratea is a town and comune of Basilicata, in the province of Potenza. On the 7th (Wed), head outdoors with Parco Avventura Gioia and then skim along the rocks with a canyoning and rapelling tour. Keep things going the next day: enjoy the sand and surf at Spiaggia Anginarra, enjoy the sand and surf at Spiaggia D'i Vranne, and then kick back and relax at Il Mirto Solarium Bar.
