The Heart of Tasmania

Lying in the Tamar Valley and surrounded by forested hills, the grid-patterned city of Launceston boasts shaded avenues, vibrant street life, and a cosmopolitan atmosphere.
Get out of town with these interesting Launceston side-trips: Beauty Point (Platypus House & Seahorse World) and Beaconsfield Mine & Heritage Centre (in Beaconsfield). Prepare for little chillier weather when traveling from Sydney in November: high temperatures in Launceston hover around 22°C and lows are around 8°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 7th (Mon) early enough to drive to Coles Bay.
