Porto — 10 nights

Unvanquished City

Called "Oporto" by many, the city of Porto along the Duoro River lent the country and Port wine their names.
Escape the urban bustle at Douro River and Mindelo Beach. Do your shopping at Livraria Lello and Rua Santa Catarina. Explore Porto's surroundings by going to Convento de Santa Clara (in Vila do Conde), Centro Historico de Guimaraes (in Guimaraes) and Afife (Praia da Arda & Praia de afife). Dedicate the 23rd (Fri) to wine at some of the top wineries in the area. And it doesn't end there: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Porto Cathedral (Se Catedral), steep yourself in history at Igreja da Ordem Terceira de São Francisco, kick back and relax at Praia de Miramar, and pause for some serene contemplation at Igreja dos Grilos.

To see maps, traveler tips, more things to do, and tourist information, read Porto itinerary planner.

If you are flying in from United States, the closest major aiport is Francisco de Sá Carneiro Airport. In August, plan for daily highs up to 76°F, and evening lows to 58°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 28th (Wed) early enough to fly to Faro.
