One of east Asia's major cultural and financial centers, Seoul boasts five World Heritage Sites and a huge selection of museums, temples, shrines, palaces, parks, gardens, and glass-and-steel skyscrapers.
Change things up with a short trip to Hwaseong Fortress in Suwon (about 1h 5 min away). There's lots more to do: get engrossed in the history at Gyeongbokgung Palace, take in the spiritual surroundings of Bongeunsa Temple, appreciate the extensive heritage of Cheonggyecheon Stream, and walk around Banpo Hangang Park.

Toronto, Canada to Seoul is an approximately 16.5-hour flight. The time zone difference moving from Eastern Standard Time to Korean Standard Time is 14 hours. Traveling from Toronto in May, things will get a bit warmer in Seoul: highs are around 28°C and lows about 16°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 26th (Sun) to allow enough time to fly to Jeju.

Island of the Gods

The main town on the largest of Korea's islands, Jeju, has a volcanic landscape protected by UNESCO. The World Heritage-listed volcanic island includes the country's highest peak, sets of impressive lava tubes and columns, and several crater lakes.
Change things up with these side-trips from Jeju: Seogwipo (Seongsan Ilchulbong, Gasiri Wind Power Plant, &more). There's lots more to do: Head underground at Manjanggul Cave, don't miss a visit to Mysterious Road (Dokkaebi Road), step off the mainland to explore Udo, and enjoy the sand and surf at Hamdeok Beach.

Traveling by flight from Seoul to Jeju takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train, taxi, and ferry; or do a combination of car and ferry. Cap off your sightseeing on the 29th (Wed) early enough to catch the flight to Busan.
