Island of the Gods

The main town on the largest of Korea's islands, Jeju, has a volcanic landscape protected by UNESCO. The World Heritage-listed volcanic island includes the country's highest peak, sets of impressive lava tubes and columns, and several crater lakes.
Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Arario Museum Tapdong Cinema and The Islander. Take a break from the city and head to Nature & Wildlife Tours and Seongsan Ilchulbong. Step out of Jeju to go to Seogwipo and see Baekyaki Oreum Volcanic Cone, which is approximately 56 minutes away. There's much more to do: explore the striking landscape at Geomunoreum, walk around Sarabong Park, trek along Saryeoni Forest Path, and kick back and relax at Gwakji Gwamul Beach.

Newark, USA to Jeju is an approximately 22-hour flight. The time zone difference when traveling from Newark to Jeju is 14 hours. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 23rd (Mon) to allow time to fly to Busan.

Busan — 2 nights

The country's second city, Busan has often been referred to as South Korea's summer capital.
Start off your visit on the 24th (Tue): get up close and personal with brilliant marine life at SEA LIFE Busan Aquarium, then kick back and relax at Haeundae Beach, and then enjoy the sand and surf at Gwangalli Beach. Here are some ideas for day two: relax and rejuvenate at some of the best spas, then wander the streets of Busan Gamcheon Culture Village, and then take in the spiritual surroundings of Haedong Yonggungsa.

Traveling by flight from Jeju to Busan takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of ferry and car; or do a combination of ferry, taxi, and train. In January, plan for daily highs up to 44°F, and evening lows to 27°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 25th (Wed) so you can fly to Gangneung.

Gangneung — 2 nights

A large coastal city, Gangneung has been historically separated from much of the country because of the long, stretching mountain range that runs parallel to the sea.
Start off your visit on the 26th (Thu): get outside with Anmok Beach, then enjoy the sand and surf at Gyeongpo Beach, and then enjoy the sand and surf at Gangmun Beach. On your second day here, head outdoors with Mangsang Beach, hike along Jeongdong-Simgok Badabuchae-gil Trail, and then kick back and relax at Jeongdongjin Beach.

Fly from Busan to Gangneung in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. Finish your sightseeing early on the 27th (Fri) to allow enough time to drive to Seoul.

Seoul — 4 nights

One of east Asia's major cultural and financial centers, Seoul boasts five World Heritage Sites and a huge selection of museums, temples, shrines, palaces, parks, gardens, and glass-and-steel skyscrapers.
Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Myeongdong Shopping Street and Insadong. Head to Namdaemun Market and Ringolabelfor plenty of shopping. The adventure continues: get engrossed in the history at Gyeongbokgung Palace, wander the streets of Bukchon Hanok Village, get great views at N Seoul Tower, and appreciate the extensive heritage of Cheonggyecheon Stream.
