17 days in Tokyo & Hokkaido Itinerary

Get out of town with these interesting Tokyo side-trips: Kamakura (Kōtoku-in, Hase-dera Temple, &more). Hong Kong, China to Tokyo is an approximately 7.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of car and ferry. Traveling from Hong Kong to Tokyo, you'll lose 1 hour due to the time zone difference. When traveling from Hong Kong in February, plan for slightly colder days in Tokyo, with highs around 12°C, while nights are cooler with lows around 2°C. You will leave for Hakodate on the 1st (Wed).

Start off your visit on the 1st (Wed): admire the landmark architecture of Goryokaku Park.

You can fly from Tokyo to Hakodate in 3 hours. Other options are to take a train; or do a combination of car and ferry. In March, Hakodate is a bit cooler than Tokyo - with highs of 5°C and lows of -1°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 2nd (Thu) early enough to catch the flight to Chitose.

Start off your visit on the 3rd (Fri): observe the fascinating underwater world at Salmon Hometown Chitose Aquarium, don't miss a visit to Hokkaido Ramen Dojo, then see the interesting displays at Royce' Chocolate World, then browse the different shops at Chitose Outlet Mall Rera, and finally indulge in some personalized pampering at some of the best spas. Here are some ideas for day two: get some fabulous bargains at Mitsui Outlet Park, Sapporo Kitahiroshima, play a few rounds at Katsura Gulf Club, play a few rounds at Nidom Classic Course, then explore the activities along Lake Shikotsu, and finally play a few rounds at The North Country Golf Club.

Fly from Hakodate to Chitose in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a train. Traveling from Hakodate in March, expect slightly colder with lows of -5°C in Chitose. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 4th (Sat) to allow time to drive to Niseko-cho.

On the 5th (Sun), visit Kanrosui, head outdoors with Niseko Annupuri International Ski Area, hit the slopes at Niseko Village Ski Resort, then hit the slopes at Niseko Tokyu Grand HIRAFU, then relax and rejuvenate at some of the best spas, and finally get a new perspective on nature at Kutchan Natural History Museum.

Traveling by car from Chitose to Niseko-cho takes 2 hours. Alternatively, you can drive. Plan for a bit warmer nights when traveling from Chitose in March since evenings lows in Niseko-cho dip to 0°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 5th (Sun) early enough to go by car to Noboribetsu.

On the 6th (Mon), observe the fascinating underwater world at Noboribetsu Marine Park Nixe, learn about wildlife with up-close encounters at Noboribetsu Bear Park, indulge in some personalized pampering at some of the best spas, then take in the dramatic natural features at Jigokudani, and finally take in the natural beauty of Oyunumagawa Natural Footbath.

You can drive from Niseko-cho to Noboribetsu in 1.5 hours. Another option is to drive. March in Noboribetsu sees daily highs of 6°C and lows of 0°C at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 6th (Mon) early enough to go by car to Sapporo.

Change things up with these side-trips from Sapporo: Otaru (Otaru Orgel Museum 2nd Building Antique, Otaru Canal, &more). Traveling from Noboribetsu in March, expect nights in Sapporo to be about the same, around -1°C, while days are slightly colder, around 1°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 10th (Fri) so you can drive to Asahikawa.

Kick off your visit on the 11th (Sat): meet the residents at Asahiyama Zoo, get in on the family fun at Asahikawa Ramen Village, then see the interesting displays at Otokoyama Sakezukuri Museum, then explore the world behind art at Snow Crystal Museum, and finally make a trip to Asahikawa Station.
