Gyumri, the second largest city in Armenia, survived a turbulent history and a devastating earthquake in 1988.
Museum-lovers will get to explore Hovhannes Shiraz Home and Museum and Isahakyan House Museum. Step off the beaten path and head to Lmbatavank Church and Akhurian River Gorge. Next up on the itinerary: take in the spiritual surroundings of Harichavank Monastery and don't miss a visit to Gyumri Railway Station.

Take a shuttle from Yerevan to Gyumri in 2 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a train. Due to the time zone difference, you'll gain 1 hour traveling from Yerevan to Gyumri. Expect slightly colder temperatures when traveling from Yerevan in January; daily highs in Gyumri reach -3°C and lows reach -15°C. Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Tezharuyk Monastery and Jukhtakvank Monastery. Appreciate the collections at Museum of Folk Art (Sharambeyan Centre of Popular Creation in Dilijan) and Soviet Government Rest House. Get out of town with these interesting Dilijan side-trips: Yenokavan (Yenokavan Canyon & Anapat Cave) and Royale Entertainment Center (in Tsakhkadzor).
