One of east Asia's major cultural and financial centers, Seoul boasts five World Heritage Sites and a huge selection of museums, temples, shrines, palaces, parks, gardens, and glass-and-steel skyscrapers.
Take a break from Seoul with a short trip to DMZ Haemaru Village in Paju, about 1h 25 min away. There's much more to do: get engrossed in the history at Gyeongbokgung Palace, shop like a local with Myeongdong Shopping Street, get to know the fascinating history of Cheonggyecheon Stream, and take in nature's colorful creations at Namsan Park.

Playa del Carmen, Mexico to Seoul is an approximately 20-hour flight. The time zone difference moving from Eastern Standard Time (EST) to Korean Standard Time (KST) is 14 hours. While traveling from Playa del Carmen, expect a bit cooler days and much colder nights in Seoul, ranging from highs of 20°C to lows of 9°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 10th (Mon) so you can go by car to Chuncheon.

Chuncheon — 1 night

The capital of the country's northernmost province, the city of Chuncheon acts a gateway to the wilder sights of the rural region.
On the 11th (Tue), contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Cheongpyeongsa, then admire the sheer force of Gugok Pokpo, and then step off the mainland to explore Nami Island.

You can drive from Seoul to Chuncheon in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or take a subway. In April, daily temperatures in Chuncheon can reach 20°C, while at night they dip to 9°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 11th (Tue) to allow time to drive to Sokcho.

Sokcho — 3 nights

Tourism in Sokcho mostly revolves around the local national park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
Venture out of the city with trips to Yangyang-gun (Naksansa Temple, Osaek Jujeongol Valley, &more). Spend the 12th (Wed) exploring nature at Seoraksan National Park. Next up on the itinerary: witness a stunning natural landmark at Cheoksan Foot Spa Park, take in the dramatic scenery at Biryong Falls, take in the spiritual surroundings of Sinheungsa Temple, and head outdoors with Ulsanbawi Rock.

Island of the Gods

The main town on the largest of Korea's islands, Jeju, has a volcanic landscape protected by UNESCO. The World Heritage-listed volcanic island includes the country's highest peak, sets of impressive lava tubes and columns, and several crater lakes.
Explore Jeju's surroundings by going to Seogwipo (Cheonjiyeon Falls, Jeongbang Waterfall, &more). There's much more to do: Head underground at Manjanggul Cave, head off the coast to Udo, trek along Jeju Olle Trail Routes, and head outdoors with Gimnyeong Seonsegi Beach.

Gyeongju — 2 nights

One of the most popular tourist destinations in the Republic of Korea, Gyeongju combines a rich cultural heritage with mountain and coastal scenery.
Kick off your visit on the 20th (Thu): steep yourself in history at Cheomseongdae Observatory, then explore the activities along Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond, and then examine the collection at Gyeongju National Museum. On the 21st (Fri), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: admire the masterpieces at Art Sonje Museum, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Bulguksa Temple, and then appreciate the history behind Seokguram.

The country's second city, Busan has often been referred to as South Korea's summer capital.
