Gongju, also spelt Kongju, is a city in South Chungcheong province, South Korea.HistoryGongju was formerly named Ungjin and was the capital of Baekje from AD 475 to 538. On the 7th (Wed), examine the collection at Gongju National Museum, then steep yourself in history at Songsan-ri Tombs and Royal Tomb of King Muryeong, then steep yourself in history at Gongju Gongsanseong Fortress, and finally get engrossed in the history at Muryeong Wangreung Exhibition Hall.

If you are flying in from Nepal, the closest major aiports are Cheongju International Airport/Cheongju Air Base (K-59/G-513), Kunsan Air Base and Osan Air Base. Head to Myeongdong Shopping Street and Migliore Dongdaemun Shopfor plenty of shopping. Get in touch with nature at Cheonggyecheon Stream and Nature & Wildlife Tours. Change things up with these side-trips from Seoul: Nami Island (in Chuncheon), Jarasum Island (in Gapyeong-gun) and Water Garden (in Namyangju). Pack the 1st (Sat) with family-friendly diversions at Korean Folk Village. And it doesn't end there: wander the streets of Insadong, get great views at N Seoul Tower, get a taste of the local shopping with Namdaemun Market, and admire the landmark architecture of Changdeokgung Palace.

The main town on the largest of Korea's islands, Jeju, has a volcanic landscape protected by UNESCO. The World Heritage-listed volcanic island includes the country's highest peak, sets of impressive lava tubes and columns, and several crater lakes.
On the 3rd (Mon), look for all kinds of wild species at Wildlife Areas. On the 4th (Tue), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: witness the site of a historic battle at Seongeup Folk Village, Head underground at Manjanggul Cave, and then hunt for treasures at Dongmun Market.

Traveling by flight from Seoul to Jeju takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train, taxi, and ferry; or do a combination of car and ferry. In October, plan for daily highs up to 24°C, and evening lows to 23°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 4th (Tue) to allow enough time to fly to Busan.

The country's second city, Busan has often been referred to as South Korea's summer capital.
On the 5th (Wed), kick back and relax at Haeundae Beach, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Haedong Yonggungsa, and then take a stroll through Busan Gamcheon Culture Village. On the next day, enjoy the sand and surf at Gwangalli Beach, indulge in some personalized pampering at some of the best spas, and then take in the spiritual surroundings of Beomeosa Temple.
