The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.

Venture out of the city with trips to Dotombori District (in Dotombori) and Four-M (in Osaka). There's much more to do: steep yourself in history at Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, take a stroll through Arashiyama, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Sanjusangendo Temple, and visit Gion.
