Hobart — 1 night

Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.Your day by day itinerary now includes Museum of Old and New Art (Mona). On the 2nd (Mon), explore the world behind art at Museum of Old and New Art (Mona), enjoy the sand and surf at Kingston Beach, look for all kinds of wild species at Raptor Refuge, then take an in-depth tour of Channel Museum, and finally delve into the lush surroundings at Myrtle Forest.

Sydney to Hobart is an approximately 3.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train, ferry, and bus; or do a combination of bus and ferry. In January, Hobart is slightly colder than Sydney - with highs of 26°C and lows of 14°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 3rd (Tue) early enough to drive to Launceston.

Museum-lovers will get to explore City Park Radio Museum and Beaconsfield Mine & Heritage Centre. Explore Launceston's surroundings by going to Platypus House (in Beauty Point) and Holm Oak Vineyards (in Rowella). You can drive from Hobart to Launceston in 2.5 hours. Another option is to take a bus. Expect a daytime high around 28°C in January, and nighttime lows around 12°C. On the 6th (Fri), you'll have the morning to explore before heading back home.
