The main town on the largest of Korea's islands, Jeju, has a volcanic landscape protected by UNESCO. The World Heritage-listed volcanic island includes the country's highest peak, sets of impressive lava tubes and columns, and several crater lakes.
Venture out of the city with trips to Seogwipo (Seongsan Ilchulbong, Gasiri Wind Power Plant, &more). The adventure continues: Head underground at Manjanggul Cave, take in nature's colorful creations at Hallim Park, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Gwaneumsa Temple, and stroll around Handam Park.

Gongju, also spelt Kongju, is a city in South Chungcheong province, South Korea.HistoryGongju was formerly named Ungjin and was the capital of Baekje from AD 475 to 538. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Gongju: Buyeo-gun (Gungnamji Pond, Buyeo National Museum, &more) and Gwanchoksa Temple (in Nonsan). There's much more to do: steep yourself in history at Gongju Gongsanseong Fortress, examine the collection at Gongju National Museum, and take in the spiritual surroundings of Magoksa Temple.

Cheongju is the capital and largest city of North Chungcheong Province in South Korea.HistoryCheongju has been an important provincial town since ancient times.During Hideyoshi's Invasions of Korea, Cheongju was the site of the Battle of Chongju, during which the Korean forces re-took the city from the Japanese forces in an important early victory.The government of the province relocated here from Chungju in 1908.The opening of the Chungbuk-line in 1926 sparked regional development.
