Funchal, Madeira — 2 nights

The capital of the island of Madeira for more than 500 years, Funchal represents a laid-back city made popular by its historical sites and climate.
Get outdoors at Safaris and Madeira Mountain Expeditions. Do some cultural sightseeing at Caravel Art Center and Ethnographic Museum. There's much more to do: take a peaceful walk through Laurissilva Forest, take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Pico do Arieiro, and explore the striking landscape at Cabo Girao.

Built on seven hills, Lisbon has experienced a renaissance in recent years, making it the cultural star of Portugal.
Appreciate the collections at Museu Calouste Gulbenkian and Carmo Archaeological Museum. Mosteiro dos Jeronimos and Museu Nacional do Azulejo are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Unvanquished City

Called "Oporto" by many, the city of Porto along the Duoro River lent the country and Port wine their names.
On the 15th (Sun), contemplate the long history of Igreja da Ordem Terceira de São Francisco, take in the spiritual surroundings of Porto Cathedral (Se Catedral), then get into the urban bustle at Palacio da Bolsa, then take in the views from Ponte de Dom Luis I, and finally take a stroll through Ribeira do Porto.

You can fly from Lisbon to Porto in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a train. In January, daytime highs in Porto are 16°C, while nighttime lows are 7°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 15th (Sun) so you can catch the flight back home.
