The Heart of Tasmania

Lying in the Tamar Valley and surrounded by forested hills, the grid-patterned city of Launceston boasts shaded avenues, vibrant street life, and a cosmopolitan atmosphere.
Start off your visit on the 8th (Sat): take a tour by water with Boat Tours & Water Sports, identify plant and animal life at Platypus House, then get up close and personal with brilliant marine life at Seahorse World, then get engrossed in the history at Beaconsfield Mine & Heritage Centre, and finally sample the tasty concoctions at James Boag Brewery Experience. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: admire the verdant scenery at The Tamar Valley, then stroll around City Park, and then look for all kinds of wild species at Cataract Gorge Reserve.

Brisbane to Launceston is an approximately 4-hour flight. You can also do a combination of car and ferry; or do a combination of train, ferry, and bus. Traveling from Brisbane in April, things will get a bit cooler in Launceston: highs are around 20°C and lows about 7°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 10th (Mon) so you can drive to Elizabeth Town.
