The Heart of Tasmania

Start off your visit on the 18th (Sun): admire the verdant scenery at The Tamar Valley, sample the tasty concoctions at James Boag Brewery Experience, and then walk around City Park. Here are some ideas for day two: sample some tasty brews at a beer tour and tasting, then look for all kinds of wild species at Cataract Gorge Reserve, and then take in the views from Alexandra Suspension Bridge.

Sydney to Launceston is an approximately 3.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train, ferry, and bus; or do a combination of bus and ferry. Traveling from Sydney in June, expect Launceston to be little chillier, temps between 13°C and 3°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 19th (Mon) early enough to drive to Coles Bay.

Step out of Hobart with an excursion to Raptor Refuge in Kettering--about 30 minutes away. The adventure continues: see Off-Road Tours, steep yourself in history at Constitution Dock, identify plant and animal life at Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, and take in nature's colorful creations at Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens.

Getting from Coles Bay to Hobart by car takes about 2.5 hours. Other options: drive; or do a combination of taxi and bus. In June, plan for daily highs up to 15°C, and evening lows to 5°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 24th (Sat) so you can go by car to Strahan.
