Create an itinerary including Beauly Priory
Take a walk around the grounds of Beauly Priory, the ruins of a Valliscaulian monastic community founded in 1230. Information boards throughout the property tell you about its history, including its period as a Cromwell fort in 1650. Several notable figures have visited the priory through history, including Mary Queen of Scots during her travels in the Highlands. John Keats was inspired to pen the poem "On Some Skulls in Beauley Abbey" near Inverness with his friend, Charles Brown, when he visited in summer of 1818. • Worth a 20 minute visit if you're in Beauly. There's not a great deal to see but the information boards are interesting and the building has a peaceful grandeur.

  • Nice, quiet, unassuming place to visit. Hidden away in Beauly. Well tended and maintained with very informative sign work around the priory. Well worth a visit and a great example of Scottish medieval architecture. Free entry
  • It is no surpise that this place is both beautiful and peaceful. After all, the Priory's name is said to come from its picturesque riverside setting. Beau Lieu means 'beautiful place' in French which Mary Queen of Scots endorsed during a visit in 1564.
