  • We left this last minute as we didn’t think there was much to see at this local museum. WRONG!! Not only did it have a super display on geology, glow-in-the-dark rocks and fossils from the area...

  • We visited the Fossil centre and had a couple of very nice experiences at the cafe last year. Sadly the were unable to open the cafe in 2022 because of staff shortages, which is a common post-COVID...

  • This place should be renamed as it's so much more than just a fossil museum. The World War history with the floor map of Scapa Flow showing the WW1 scuttling of the German fleet, and WW2 the route taken by UB40 which sunk Royal Oak, and the model of the 3rd barrier, really brought home and made easy to understand and put into perspective everything that happened in Orkney. I was pleasantly surprised to learn of the Argyllshire from the model ship, which went aground near my home in Holm. The ballast stones of which were used in the building of the pier at Ness point. Maureen at the desk was very welcoming, and good humour regarding going in the dark room with white trousers.
  • Some cracking exhibits and more than just fossils, has a good part on the ww1 and ww2 era as well as local history.
