Create an itinerary including Georgian House
Considered a masterpiece of urban architecture, Georgian House provides a look at city life in the 18th century. Situated in the commercial heart of Edinburgh, the house remains virtually unchanged since its construction in the 1790s, when well-heeled city dwellers began to flee the cramped neighborhoods of the old town. Designed by architect Robert Adam and packed with period china, silver, paintings, and furniture, the house provides a rare glimpse into the domestic and social conditions of the 18th century. Take a self-guided tour of the kitchen, dining rooms, and basement to see how the other half lived in Georgian Edinburgh. • A great house to visit right in the centre of Edinburgh. We were there for about an hour or so. Full of interesting Georgian furniture etc. However what sets it apart and made our visit so good...

  • Rick Steves said to visit if we had time, so we spent a rainy morning at this beautiful, restored Georgian-era mansion. There were volunteer docents in each room, and they provided background...

  • Great experience. I hate reading things on museum, I prefer to be immersed and talk and THATS the place to go to. You feel you went back in history and in each room you have a very knowledgeable guide sharing her/his anecdotes that are priceless. Best way to learn about history. I got very emotional having in my hands an original copy of a newspaper dated a week after the french revolution (I am french ^^). Thank you so much for your warm welcome and passionate helpers !
  • As a huge fan of Jane Austin’s work I had to visit this place. It’s an amazing depiction of life of the highest class at the time. Every room has a guide who is very knowledgeable and eager to explain many details about the house, and life of its residents. You will learn so much! This was one of my favorite museums in Edinburgh.
