Gaze upon the faces of the aristocracy at National Galleries Scotland: Portrait, where visages from Scotland's nobility are preserved in paint. In fact, all the paintings in the gallery depict Scots. Two portraits of Mary Queen of Scots were painted after her death. The Gothic revival building also houses the Scottish National Photography Collection, which stands in stark contrast to the royal portraiture. Seek out photographs of the slums of Glasgow in the 19th century, which depict the deplorable living conditions of the poor. • Positively surprised at how big and how gorgeous the place is! We explored it because we had time to kill, and we loved it. The hall is insanely gorgeous, and there's so many portraits to view as...

  • The building itself is amazing. The art isn't really my thing but that's entirely personal taste. It's almost entirely portraiture (as the name suggests). I was happy to go along because I want the only one in my group, and I'm sure it is a great exhibit for those who enjoy that. I enjoyed looking at the architecture and such.
  • I really enjoyed this museum. Entry is free but it is suggested a donation to keep it going. I loved the paintings and how the museum is designed to talk about Scotland's history and how well all the information is placed. Although there are three floors, the museum can be seen in two hours easily. I really recommend the visit if you have the time.
