Put on your best hiking boots and charge your camera batteries for a great outdoor adventure at Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest mountain. This impressive mountain towers 1,343 m (4,406 ft) above the town of Fort William, attracting over 200,000 climbers each year. Most visitors use the well-maintained Pony Track, which starts on the southern side of the mountain. Experienced mountaineers and ice climbers prefer the 700-m (2,300-ft) cliffs on the northern face of the mountain, which offer scrambles of all levels of difficulty. The summit features the ruins of an observatory building, which closed in 1904. The weather can change suddenly at various stages of the ascent, so it’s best to hire a local guide and carry appropriate equipment, food, and plenty of water. Not for the faint hearted, about 5 miles up and remember you have to come back down! But what a great feeling of achievement. Scotland is beautiful give it a go, you won’t be disappointed.
