At St Mary de Crypt Church, visit the classroom of one of the first Tudor grammar schools and the grave of the creator of Sunday schools, Robert Raikes. Since its founding in the 12th century, the church has played an important role in the lives of its parishioners. See the renaissance pulpit from which the 18th-century Evangelist George Whitfield--who brought Methodism to America--preached for the first time. The altar space features a medieval fresco depicting the magi bearing gifts. Apart from the church and the crypt, you can also tour the ringing chamber; the bell tower houses eight 18th-century bells. Visited while exploring the area. Lovely hot sunny day and sat in the gardens along with others having a picnic lunch. Watch out for the seagulls though if you want to keep your food !

Fantastic,beautiful church and venue! We had a successful Christmas FUNtastic Fair at Discover De Crypt/St Mary De Crypt last Saturday. We will have another one there on Saturday, the 19th November 2022, 10 am to 3 pm. All our stallholders are looking forward to it! I highly recommend St Mary De Crypt Church as a venue, it’s at the heart of Gloucester town centre.

5 of us went to see great expectations tonight. How amazing. The cast were superb. Highly recommended. The setting couldn't have been better. A little tip... take a cushion!!!
