  • When I saw this tower, lit up, I thought it was a mosque but none of the crew knew. One said it was a council building, I should have realised that it was more special than that.

  • The Victoria Tower standing at 245 feet, is part of the Inverclyde Municipal Buildings completed in 1889. It was being built at the same time as the Glasgow City Chambers, and apparently, Greenock...

  • During Greenock's increasing importance and wealth in the 19th century as a port for Glasgow, resulted in ambitions to build a grand town hall. So began the construction of the this Municipal Buildings. The Victoria Tower forms part of the building, was completed in 1886 and stands 75 metres tall. The building is designed in the Italian Renaissance style, with apparent levels by sectioning horizontal lines at regular intervals up the tower and decorated with granite columns and sculptures near the top. Worth a look if in the city.
  • Ornately carved and embellished blonde sandstone tower of Inverclyde's Greenock Municipal Buildings.
