Shrouded in legends of mermaids and ghost sailors, Sandwood Bay Beach sits against the backdrop of large sand dunes and gently rolling moorland, with nearly 2.4 km (1.5 mi) of wide pink sand flanked by rocky cliffs and a giant sea stack. Prepare to trek a bleak but well-trodden path through a freshwater loch to get to this remote bay. Spend time exploring dunes, searching for shipwrecks buried in the sand, or simply sitting on a rock and watching the sea. • Just wow Lovely walk to the beach, not very hard to be honest, the only problem I had was getting back out up the dunes but other than that it was absolutely brilliant. No other beach in the UK is...

  • As beaches go, this is pretty epic. Arguably the most remote beach I've ever been to, surpassing those on the Outer Hebrides. Despite a 90 minute car journey to the car park, there is still a 4 mile....  more

  • Such a nice beach! If you have sunny weather i’d definitely recommend heading over and soaking up the calming vibes of this place. It’s roughly a 6.7km walk from the car park along a decent 4x4 track. As a happy bonus (and on a clear day) you can see all the way over to the lighthouse at Cape Wrath. Better still….it’s a great place to wild camp!
  • It's definitely worth a visit, although it's a long walk there and back so be prepared! The car park has probably the cleanest public toilet in the whole of the UK, thanks to the local warden and John Muir Trust.
