Create an itinerary including The Roaches Peak District
The Roaches is a prominent rocky ridge above Leek and Tittesworth Reservoir in the Peak District of England. The ridge with its rock formations rises steeply to 505m.
Along with Ramshaw Rocks and Hen Cloud they form a gritstone escarpment, which is very popular with hikers, rock climbers and freerunners. It is often very busy especially at weekends. The local mountain rescue team is a regular attendee to this popular crag.
The Roaches Estate which includes Hen Cloud was purchased by the Peak District National Park Authority in the 1980s to safeguard the area from adverse development. From May 2013 Staffordshire Wildlife Trust will take on the management of the iconic Roaches Estate. The British Mountaineering Council maintain a mountain hut named in memory of Don Whillans in the area.
In clear conditions, it is possible to see much of Cheshire and views stretching as far as Snowdon in Wales and Winter Hill in Lancashire.

  • Really good walk along the Roaches ridge. Lots of climbers enjoying the mild Winter’s day too. Fantastic views. Finding a parking space can be difficult and they do fine people who park...

  • Well it has been many years since I last visited The Roaches with my young children, who had many fun filled hours running around and exploring this stunning area. On returning it made me realise...

  • Brilliant views, was a cloudy day but just lovely looking over the lands, hearing nature, birds, farm animals just beautiful. Please be aware of the drops between the rocks, can be dangerous, keep hold of children. Completed Hen cloud, on to the Roaches and then Luds church. Parked at a farm house, paid £2 for all day parking. Don't park on the side of roads if its not a lay-by, we spotted tons of cars with parking tickets. Pay the £2, well worth it.
  • Great walk from our campsite. Moderately challenging in places but once up top, fairly easy hike. Fantastic 360 views!
