Create an itinerary including Loch Ness
The second deepest lake in Scotland, Loch Ness is best known for alleged sightings of the mysterious Loch Ness Monster, affectionately called Nessie. This large freshwater lake extends for about 37 km (23 mi) southwest of Inverness, forming an important part of a series of interconnected and very murky bodies of water. The natural murkiness, created by the high peat content in the surrounding soil, contributes to the legend of Nessie and attracts thousands of visitors each year. Several operators offer boat tours around the lake, providing curious tourists with a chance to search for the famous monster. Don’t miss a visit to the nearby Loch Ness Center and Exhibition, examining the natural history and the myth of the lake’s elusive resident. • Such beautiful scenery to be the location of "Nessie" the Loch Ness monster. The drive along this Loch is gorgeous. We spent time here in the River Ness before going to the Visitors center a few...

  • Beautiful. Wherever you stop around this loch, you are treated to wonderful views and tranquility. The visitor centre was interactive and interesting, the boat trip was bracing and worth it.

  • Amazing mountain terrain with hidden castles as Gems! Also many small island place and glacier peaks at Scotland!
  • Been waiting to go here now for quite a while and it was worth the wait. There are several large layby's on the roads around the loch for viewing and you get a good view of the loch. We parked at Urquhart Castle and after driving round a couple of times we managed to find a space but parking is limited so bare this in mind when visiting give yourself plenty of time to park even when booked in advance. The castle is stunning and there are lots of information boards around and staff dotted about to answer questions. There is also a very large shop and a decent cafe/restaurant prices were a little on the high side but expected for this type of tourist attraction.
