The Grey Cairns of Camster are two large Neolithic chambered cairns located about 8+1⁄2 miles (14 kilometres) south of Watten and 5 miles (8 km) north of Lybster in Caithness, in the Highland region of Scotland. They are among the oldest structures in Scotland, dating to about 5,000 years ago. The cairns demonstrate the complexity of Neolithic architecture, with central burial chambers accessed through narrow passages from the outside. They were excavated and restored by Historic Environment Scotland in the late 20th century and are open to the public.

  • It is a long drive down a narrow road but worth it. You can crawl into both cairns though the passageway into the round cairn and one into the long cairn were too narrow for me to be comfortable...

  • Really interesting place, good bit of the main road but worth it. The Cairns have been rebuilt but it's been worth the effort and you can get inside the Cairns.

  • What a cool bit of Scottish history, very interesting, and I can’t believe you can go inside them, it a right squeeze and I’m only 5,10 and 11 stone, but we’ll worth it if you can fit lol
  • One of my favourite places for a short visit. It's tremendously quiet all around. Some lovely horses off the beaten path. A short, man made wooden trail to each of the cairns. Little info panels for each. And if you are feeling adventurous, you can crawl into each one for a really cool little room in each. It's so peaceful here.
