Museum of Lead Mining, Wanlockhead

Worth the journey, we were there for the first tour and it was just the 2 of us. Really enjoyed it, full of information and insite to the local community and the beautiful surroundings were just dream like on a warm day. The guide knew exactly what he was talking a about, open and friendly in with the conversations. The mine itself was really interesting though I'd recommend waterproof footwear at least. The library was really interesting and we were able to self guide around the rest of the museum. The gold panning wasn't available on the day we visited but we will most definitely be back. We enjoyed a pot of tea in the tea room and left to enjoy a local pub lunch.

The museum has been on our to-do list for a while now and I'm glad that we finally made it! It has a lovely little shop, a small interesting museum, a really nice cafe as well as picnic benches outside. My wife and I, and my 2 sons did the mine tour, then we were taken down to the cottages, and then up to the miners library. All in, it was about an hour an a half. Our guide was Emily, only 2 weeks into the job and she was superb. She had a lot of knowledge, she was very confident and she chatted away with us. Emily really made the experience for us and anyone who gets her as a guide is lucky. Had she not told us, we'd never have known that she had only just started. After the tour and a visit to the museum, it was back in to the cafe for another coffe and a great cake or two, then off for a walk around the village.
