The lake itself is a fine example of natural beauty. It's the largest lake in England, apparently. It was lovely to get on a boat and explore it. The surrounding area of the lake, particularly in Bowness-on-Windermere, leaves a little to be desired. Parking is very difficult, first finding a space, then queuing at insufficient machines that are also ancient. For me it's one of those where it's nice to visit once, but not somewhere I'd be rushing to return to.
