For a family-friendly stroll with excellent views of Windermere and the southern lakes, walk to Orrest Head. This simple route requires no prior hiking experience, as you'll follow just one well-marked trail. The entire journey takes 45-60 minutes on foot from nearby Windermere. Be wary of the paths near the top of the trail, which may be steep for those with physical limitations. If you prefer to return by a different route, take the footpaths back to the village from the top. Easy walk with lovely view at the top, easily managed by a 3yr old. We did it at dusk and enjoyed walking in the dark forest before it emerges at the top.

The best place to see Windermere lake from the top is orrest head. Its approx 3 km walk to the top and amazing location and thick forest like feelings. Even in summer the walk ways covered by trees and you feel cozy.

The view is spectacular, worth the climb up the hill. Loved it. Would definitely recommend this place.
