Piestewa Peak, Phoenix

The third-highest point in Phoenix, Piestewa Peak provides commanding views of the city and the surrounding mountains. Hike the summit trail to reach the lookout point, and identify various types of cacti, such as the saguaro, barrel, pincushion, and prickly pear, on your way up. Keep an eye out for wildlife, including the gila monster, horned lizard, and chuckwalla. The summit hike is fairly strenuous with rapidly increasing elevation and is not recommended for people with knee, hip, and ankle problems. However, you'll find a range of clearly marked trails for people of varying capabilities to choose from. Restrooms and water are available at the bottom of the main trail only, so use these facilities before starting your hike.
