Create an itinerary including Piestewa Peak
The third-highest point in Phoenix, Piestewa Peak provides commanding views of the city and the surrounding mountains. Hike the summit trail to reach the lookout point, and identify various types of cacti, such as the saguaro, barrel, pincushion, and prickly pear, on your way up. Keep an eye out for wildlife, including the gila monster, horned lizard, and chuckwalla. The summit hike is fairly strenuous with rapidly increasing elevation and is not recommended for people with knee, hip, and ankle problems. However, you'll find a range of clearly marked trails for people of varying capabilities to choose from. Restrooms and water are available at the bottom of the main trail only, so use these facilities before starting your hike. For travelers who use our custom trip planner, Phoenix holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Piestewa Peak and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • Very challenging hike but a great workout. It's only a mile up and a mile down- but very rocky with multiple switchbacks. Once at the top, there's a panoramic view of Phoenix. The trail is steep...

  • This was recommended by a Park Ranger at Echo Canyon as we were looking for a place with picnic tables. It was perfect! Many clean bathrooms, lots of parking and plenty of picnic areas- including...

  • Part of the Phoenix Park Preserve this place has trails and climbs for everyone! We did a total of 6 miles of hiking by going around the peak and then the .5 mile climb to the top! It's a strap climb but path is clearly laid out and is like walking steps all the way to the top. The view is amazing and is a fantastic place for sunset! One of my favorite places to hike and Climb. It is a busy location and well used.
  • This is a hard and rocky climb , wear proper hiking shoes which will help with all the loose rocks. The views from summit are beautiful.!
