Walk to the hum of local traffic and curious tourists in Old Quarter, the business district and downtown hub of Hanoi that dates back to the 13th century. Bearing the names of the businesses that once stood there, the quarter's narrow streets teem with cafes, bars, temples, shops, teahouses, and stalls selling French and Vietnamese foods. Watch a water puppet show, plant yourself at a sidewalk cafe to drink a local beer, or bargain with a smile at shops and street food stalls. Plan to see Old Quarter and other attractions that appeal to you using our Hanoi trip planner.

The old quarter area is the best place to stay during your trip to Hanoi as it is an absolutely perfect mix of shop+food+stay hub. You cannot get bored of this place at all. We stayed here for 3 days and had new things to do every single day. The shops sell all kinds of knockoffs and if you are good at bargaining, you are in for a treat!😁 As vegetarians, we had no problems finding food here as there are tons of vegetarian options to explore here!🥰🥰🥰 Highly recommend the small Pho Chay and Bun Chay stall in a narrow alley way beside Bubbles Banh mi store. They are open from 7 to 11am only. Do not miss this place as they serve the best vegetarian noodle soup for just 20000dong!!!! 🥰🥰🥰 absolutely delicious!

Frenetic. Annoying. Alive. Buzzing. The Old Quarter, which is steadily becoming the New Quarter as evidenced by the rapid change, is on the comeback post covid. It wasn’t what is was, but it’s still a must visit place in Hanoi.
