Admire dynastic continuity at The Mieu Temple, an ancestral temple dedicated to ten emperors of the Nguyen dynasty located in the World Heritage Site Imperial City, Hue. Completed in 1823, the temple houses many personal belonging of Nguyen emperors. The yellow-colored roof of the temple had endings in the form of the squash blossoms and it covers altars for each emperor with their photo and gold ingots. The courtyard has nine colossal dynastic urns dedicated to nine emperors, each about 2 m (6.5 ft) in height weighing 1,900 kg to 2,600 kg (4,189 to 5,732 lbs). The central and most ornate urn is that of the dynastic founder and the yard also features statues of dragons captivated in red boxes.   • I was wearing shorts which did not cover my knees so remained outside! You can see inside though. Looks incredibly beautiful and has real historic significance.

  • Rebuild and restored since the end of the Vietnam War, the Mieu Temple is a place to worship ancient emperors of Vietnam. It was wonderful to just try to imagine what the place must have been like...

  • There used to be a temple there but one of it was destroyed during the war. Only it’s gates and some ruins remain.
